During the period from January, 1980 to October, 1981, the author performed nasolacrimal duct intubation with polyethylene tubes on 27 patients with obstruction of nasolacrinal duct. Author´s surgical technic, a modified Kong´s method was introduced.
The results were as follows:
1. The cure rate was 77.7% (in 21 of 27 cases).
2 Two of six initial failured cases, were due to prolapse of polythylene tubes into the nasal cavity spontaneously, three were due to continuous chronic dacryocystitis and the rest, severe rhinitis.
Z. In summary, the author can recommend this simple operation prior to dacryocystorhinostomy that has more sucess rates.
